Project List1. Chickahominy Community Improvement Organization - Cutting grass and general house cleaning - home on Little Creek Dam Road. 2. Chickahominy Community Improvement Organization - Removing debris from yard (old storage shed), cut grass and shrubs, powerwash the house. Home on Turner Neck Road, Toano. 3. Child Development Resources - Classroom volunteers to read and play with infants and toddlers for the morning only. 4. Child Development Resources - Repair and replace story props for the 1-2-3 Read! Early Literacy Curriculum. 5. Child Development Resources - Sewing and making baby bibs. Whole day or half day shifts. 6. Child Development Resources - Weed and mulch the children's garden. 7. Child Development Resources - Playground enhancements: Installation of a hammock on a stand; a wooden covered area; a mulched area that would have balance equipment; a larger play space for infants. 8. Child Development Resources - Painting of building shutters and window frames. 9. Child Development Resources - The building and assembly of an outside storage building - the help of a "consultant" to help plan this project (building vs. assembly; size, location, foundation, etc.) would also be appreciated. 10. Child Development Resources - Landscaping around mobile classrooms at Lafayette High School: Ground cover, planting of self-care plants; timbers; mulch, etc. 11. Child Development Resources - Playground enhancements - installation of shade structure, wood chips, etc. 12. Community Action Agency - Home on Nelson Drive - Replace railing on front of house, back porch roof leaks - replace shingles; replace railing and repair steps on back porch. 13. Community Action Agency - Home in Rain Tree - Winter Sat Pass - Needs inside of house painting - may need to move furniture as you paint. 14. Community Action Agency - Home on Longhill Road - Need house and trim painted, some trim repair, clean debris in yard. 15. Community Action Agency - Home on Centerville Road - Repair and paint porch, paint trailer. 16. Community Action Agency - Highland Park Home - Bathroom floor needs to be fixed, hot water heater leaks and damaged the floor around the toilet. Tile from the wall fell, needs to be replaced. 17. Community Action Agency - Ivy Hill Road Home - Shed needs to be cleaned out - debris may need to be hauled off. 18. Community Action Agency - Chickahominy Road Home - Paint outside of house. Paint will be provided. 19. Community Action Agency - Ivy Hill Road Home (Toano) - Tear down old shed and remove from property, remove old appliances (coupons will be provided to dump trash). 20. Community Action Agency - Friendship Drive Home (Toano) - Replace wall around tub in bathroom, need ventilation and treat for mold in bathroom, put molding around tub and paint. Paint ceiling in three rooms, hang closet doors. Closet doors and paint will be provided. 21. Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast - 448 Fenton Mill Rd. - Painting exterior of cabins, buildings, cleaning, clearing and repairs. 22. Grove Christian Outreach Center - 8910 Pocahontas Trail - Back to School Blessings Festival - A festival to allow Grove area kids to get needed school supplies in a fun way. Games, rock wall climbing, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn, etc. all prizes for games are school supplies. 23. Historic Triangle Senior Center - Longhill Road - Serve lunch to our Lunch Bunch and assist in playing bingo. 24. R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA - 117 Information Center Dr. - Paint office, mulch playground, front yard and parking lot, repairs and spruce up. 25. York River State Park - 5526 Riverview Rd.- Trail work, installing signs. 26. Williamsburg Area Meals on Wheels - Meet at the College of William & Mary, 1 Commons Way - Ride along with MOW volunteers to deliver noontime meals to MOW recipients who are home alone and unable to cook for themselves. 27. Operation Hope Ministry - 105 Orange Drive - This is a 4-bedroom apartment located over a double garage - needs to be painted and carpeted. Bathroom needs to be tiled and plumbing repair. Powerwash the exterior of the building. The purpose is to house women and children under 12 years old who need a temporary place to stay for up to 2 weeks - this project may take multiple volunteer groups on different days. 28. Child and Family Connection - 312 Waller Mill Road, Suite 500 - Remove files and materials from attic for Shred-it. 2 to 3 hours. Need to be able to lift heavy boxes and climb steep stairs. 29. Child and Family Connection - 312 Waller Mill Road, Suite 500 - Paint counselors office and two other offices. 30. Williamsburg Redevelopment & Housing Authority - 613 Scotland Street - Paint resident apartment doors. 31. Eastern State Hospital - 4601 Ironbound Road - Outdoor Projects - cleaning, staining, painting. 32. Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg - 4445 Powhatan Parkway - Window Washing, annual yard clean up, etc. 33. Avalon - Sort donations, etc. 34. Big Brothers/Big Sisters - 312 Waller Mill Road - Preparing various packages and pieces for mailing to include envelope stuffing, labeling and copying of forms, etc. 35. United Way - 312 Waller Mill Road - Letter stuffing - preparing the citizens campaign mailing. 36. United Way - 312 Waller Mill Road - Set up gym for evening program - put out the drinks, decorate the walls/stage, set up the tables and chairs. 37. Historic Triangle Community Service Building (where United Way's offices are) - 312 Waller Mill Road - Inside Project - clean out boxes from attic, shred papers (Shred It truck might be here), etc. 38. Historic Triangle Community Service Building (where United Way's offices are) - 312 Waller Mill Road - Outside Project - Yard work - spread mulch, trim overgrowth on side of the parking lot, pick up trash around parking lot, etc. 39. Faith in Action - Coleman Drive Residence - Yard work 40. Faith in Action - Grove residence - Clean out garage, repair hole in wall above shower, replace tile around toilet. 41. FISH - FOOD DRIVES - If you cannot participate in volunteering on Day of Caring, have your staff run a food drive the week of Day of Caring and bring the donations to the our building (where FISH is) on September 7th or September 8th. 42. Faith in Action - First Colony residence (disabled client) - Client has an assortment of projects for 2 different teams. Team 1 - put up mailbox, build something to hold the trashcans to keep the raccoons out, hang curtain rods, install stove, washer, dryer and bathtub, repair backing on a hutch, put backing on an entertainment center, cut a mail slot in the front door, clean the gutters, some painting. Team 2 - Repair or rebuild deck, clean garage and install storage cabinets. Other work needed: repair a dripping showerhead and outside faucet, some electrical outlets are not working, old appliances and boxes need to be removed. 43. Housing Partnerships - Location yet to be determined - Cleaning, painting, light repair work to a low-income homeowners home. 44. Williamsburg Botanical Garden - Freedom Park, 5535 Centerville Road - Installing stone pathway through wetlands area 39 feet by 5 feet. Almost 195 square feet of stepping-stones. Lunch will be provided. Strong folks needed to be able to lift and carry the stones! 45. Queens Lake Middle School - Help out in office, library and art room. 46. Queens Lake Middle School - Clean exit doors; sweep floor mats on outside and floors around doors; clean windows on inside and outside of exit doors; plant flowers. 47. Waller Mill Elementary School - Put together 6 - 6ft picnic tables and coat with sealer. 48. Bruton High School - Library Assistant and Guidance Office Assistant - filing, etc. 49. Magruder Elementary School - Weed flowerbeds. 50. Catholic Charities & Children's Home Society - Baby Shower 51. Children's Home Society - Baby Shower 52. James City County - Centerville Road property - light repairs, yard work, etc. 53. James City County - Mt. Laurel Road Property - light repairs, yard work, etc. 54. Historic Triangle Senior Center - 5301 Longhill Road - volunteers to sew, knit and/or crochet scarves and hats for the children who use the services of FISH, blankets for children at Olde Towne Medical Center and lap robes for the veterans of the Veterans Hospital. Donations of fabric and yard greatly appreciated and any items made prior to or after Day of Caring greatly appreciated. 55. Arc of Williamsburg - 202D Packets Court, McClaws Circle - General office maintenance - filing, cleaning, helping to rearrange furniture, etc. 56. NOT ON DAY OF CARING! American Red Cross - Williamsburg Chapter - BLOOD DRIVE Williamsburg Community Blood Drive, Crowne Point Plaza Fort Magruder on Route 60 Wednesday, August 30th from 8am to 8pm - Donate your time to give blood - the goal is 300 pints. All donors get a free t-shirt. 57. City of Williamsburg - Monticello Avenue Road Clean Up - Pick up trash, etc. from side of road. |
