UWGW - Receptionists/Office Assistants

Needed for the main office of United Way - to greet visitors to the office, to answer the phone and direct calls, light office duties to include letter folding, filing, newspaper article scrapbook updates, etc.)

Hours are negotiable, but a shift consisting of 3 to 4 hours 1 day a week would be greatly appreciated.

UWGW - Account Executives
We are looking for volunteers who can donate either one day a week or a few hours each day during the week to serve as our Account Executives during campaign (duties for 2005 would begin in March and become heavier closer through September and October). You would be responsible for up to 5 business accounts and would assist the campaign director with preparing business profiles contacting businesses to assist them in effectiveley running an employee campaign, provide requested materials to businesses and more.
No degree is needed for this volunteer position, but great for people with marketing and business experience and just the willingness to help United Way have a successful campaign. Please email Chris Lafferty at campaign@uwgw.org or call 253-2264 to set up an interview.

BIG BROTHERS/BIG SISTERS - Volunteer mentors are needed for children aged 6 to 12. BB/BS serve
children in need of good role models, from single parent homes, and those with special needs such as physical
handicaps, academic struggles, foster care children and children with a parent incarcerated. If you have
ONE HOUR PER WEEK to give, you can start making a difference NOW!

EASTERN STATE HOSPITAL

- looking for mature adults for several placements
at the Hospital. One is a request for a male to be a "friend" to a geriatric
male. Your responsibility is to visit the patient once a week for about 45
minutes and converse in a variety of subject, (health and fitness, the
Bible, history, etc.) Patient is wheelchair bound and may not go off grounds
and you must be firm as to what he can and cannot do. Patient is high
functioning. **

EASTERN STATE HOSPITAL - looking for several volunteers to be a "guardian" to a patient
who is unable to make decisions for his/her care. This job does not entail
more than about 12 hours min. per year. You must get to know patient, attend
his/her Treatment Team meetings, makes decisions for the patient(with the
assistance of a social worker) and sign paperwork. The process for being
approved through the State Attorney General's office has been taking about
one year. **

BRIDGES FAMILY ORIENTED GROUP HOME PROGRAM - Change the world one child at a time.
Become a foster family for Bridges Family-Oriented Group Home.  Bridges is a unique regional
cooperative team approach to foster care for youth ages 10 through 17 who are having troubles at home.
We offer 24 hour support and guidance to foster families, ongoing and individual training, and
compensation for services and expenses.  We need foster families to provide positive parenting skills,
support, understanding and love to help these youth become successful individuals.

American Red Cross, Colonial Virginia Chapter -Every day, your Colonial Virginia Chapter is there for you, serving the City of Williamsburg and James City County. Our Chapter is able to provide valuable services to the community only because of our volunteers, and invite you to become a member of our Red Cross Family. We offer a variety of year-round volunteer opportunities providing assistance to local disaster victims, aid to active military and their families (AFES), babysitting classes, working in bloodmobiles, and teaching health and safety classes (first aid, CPR training, etc.). Also clerical assistance is needed in our Chapter office on Jamestown Rd. Think you don't have any skills to offer? You would be surprised. Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Department of Volunteer Programs, Phone 220-7181 - A variety of year-round opportunities for adults, ranging from giving orientation tours, working in libraries, museums or hotels, to name a few! Geared for those with an interest in colonial history or who are just interested in learning more about how Colonial Williamsburg works behind-the-scenes.

Dream Catchers Therapeutic Riding Center Phone 566-1775 - Volunteers 14 years and older are needed to help keep the riding center operating. They provide valuable assistance by helping with safety, horse handling, barn maintenance, and working with riders.

Medi Home Health and Hospice - Hospice Volunteer Program - Arvyette Patterson, Volunteer Coordinator 757-548-1600, Toll Free Phone 1-800-89203752 - Volunteers play an important role during patients dying process. They demonstrate that “someone really does care” that “every human being’s life matters” that “everyone has the right not to die alone and uncared for!” Our expectation of you, our volunteer, is to provide the “lovingkindnesses” which every person has a right to expect. It is not an easy thing to do! This particular service requires strength, compassion and a giving, unselfish spirit. We will provide training for you; place you appropriately; and oversee your hospice activities from beginning to end. We know your value, and appreciate your sacrifice. If your heart is of that type of spirit, compassionate enough to want to give of yourself and strong enough to be able to do just that, then we need you.

APVA Preservation Virginia at Historic Jamestowne, Phone 229-0412 - Year-round adult volunteer opportunities at Historic Jamestowne as Jamestown Rediscovery interpreters or museum store assistants. Training in February. Call for information about signing up.

Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Phone 253-4034 - Adults and youth volunteers, ages 11 and above, support the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation throughout the year in a variety of areas. Location Jamestown Settlement, Yorktown, Victory Center and various other locations

PKD Foundation, Phone 1-800-753-2873 x112, www.pkdcure.org - Chapter Volunteers are needed to help with one or more of the following: fundraising, media outreach, educating about PKD, securing corporate support and offering PKD patient support. Waterman’s Museum, Phone 887-2641 - Adult, youth and family volunteers assist with special events, educational programs, docents, maintenance and repair of exhibits, building and grounds. Parent/guardian permission required for youth volunteers.

Sentara-Williamsburg Community Hospital, Phone 259-6191 - Students (junior ages 14 and up, college) adult and family volunteers support the hospital’s mission of “we continuously improve health in our community and the region we serve through teamwork and compassionate care.” The hospital also offers a summer youth volunteer program. Volunteers need references and annual tuberculosis test (hospital provides free). Parent/guardian permission required for youth volunteers. Fee Annual fee of $10 to join the Williamsburg Community Hospital Auxilary, there is no fee to join the volunteer team.
