United Way . . . making tomorrow brighter . . . that's what matters! Our 13th annual Day of Caring was on September 9, 2004. The day began at Sentara-Williamsburg Community Hospital's Outpatient Care Center on Mooretown Road. Volunteers gathered in the parking lot area and enjoyed donuts (from Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts and Farm Fresh), bagels (from Big Apple Bagel) and coffee (from Starbucks), picked up their t-shirts, had their team photos taken, picked up a little healthy snack bag from the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation and receive a little "way to go" motivation from Vickie Tucker, Day of Caring Chair, Bob Graves, Sentara Williamsburg Community Hospital's Administrator and from Dean Sculthrope, Campaign Chair. The volunteers then headed off to their project sites. Weather held up for most of the day, a few areas had a brief shower, but for the most part, it was a great day to be working on the many projects. At 5:00pm volunteers gathered back at the Historic Triangle Community Service Building to share their day's experiences and enjoyed a dinner provided in-kind by Outback Steak House and dessert from Ben& Jerry's. There was a program to close the day's activities and the 2004 campaign was kicked off with the announcement of the amount raised by the Pacesetters, which was OVER $500,000.00!!!! The Campaign was kicked off with the announcement that we need to raise more money than we raised last year - there is no set goal, but the needs in the community are increasing and we want to work to meet those needs - your donation today will help make an IMPACT on our community.
