Dear Greater Williamsburg Citizens,
In this age of emails, texts, and Facebook, meaningful communication can be lost. I hope you will take the time to read this letter.
As local residents for over 25 years, my wife, Lynn, and I have witnessed the incredible growth of our hometown area. With this growth has come an increased need for the types of services directly provided by the United Way and the local charitable organizations it supports.
Many local families struggle day-to-day with paying rent, putting food on the table for their children, keeping warm, obtaining clothing, and getting health care or medication. United Way supports programs that provide these necessities. I know many great causes, nationally and internationally, exist that are worthy of your support… However, through your support of the United Way, you help a fellow citizen, neighbor, customer, employee — or even a friend or family member. Money raised here, stays here.
Lynn and I have been particularly moved by local families who are precariously housed and living in motels, despite parents working one or more jobs. The cost of a motel or other temporary housing can actually be higher than an apartment or house. But, families are excluded from these better choices by poor credit, lack of deposit money, or a past eviction when a job was lost. They live one paycheck away from homelessness. United Way has a program, Home for Good, which directly addresses this major issue of housing and homelessness in our area.
On behalf of our United Way of Greater Williamsburg, I ask you to support our neighbors in need and effect positive change in our community. We believe the strength of the community lies within the hearts and souls of its people. Know that we are truly grateful for your kindness, generosity and support. Send in a donation or pledge today.
Respectfully,
