Marshall Warner, 2012 Board President

Marshall Warner, Executive Vice President of Chesapeake Bank. Some of Marshall’s volunteer work has included serving as the United Way Campaign Chair in 2009 and 2010.

Marshall’s other community activities include: Economic Development Authority, Director for James City County; Currently serving on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance; Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance 2005-2006.

 

Elaine McBeth, Community Impact Chair

Elaine joined the faculty at the College of William and Mary in 1988 and taught full time in the Economics Department before being named Associate Director of the Thomas Jefferson Program in Public Policy in 1993. She also serves as Director of Graduate Studies for the Master of Public Policy Program and leads the Graduate Washington Program for the College. Elaine has served as a consultant for the Virginia Institute of Local Government, the Virginia Department of Education, the American Bankers Association, and the Educational Testing Service. Her volunteer work includes serving on the Williamsburg Area League of Women Voters and on the Williamsburg Planning Commission. She has been a United Way volunteer for 10 years, serving as a Loaned Executive, Allocations Committee Member and Panel Chair, and now Community Impact Co-Chair.

 

Jake Liebler, Finance Chair

Jake Liebler, CPA is the Chief Financial Officer for Henderson Inc. Jake has been involved with the United Way over the last 4 years in various ways. He also serves in different capacities for other non-profit organizations.

 

Christina Shelton, Secretary

Christina Shelton has served on the Board of Directors for the United Way since 2005. Chris currently serves as one of two ethics officers, is a member of the Audit Committee, and also serves as Secretary. Chris received her B.A. from Emory and Henry College, her M.A. from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and her law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary. After graduating from law school, Chris was employed as an associate attorney at the law firm of Phillips & Bartlett P.C., becoming a partner in 2006. While in private practice, Chris also served as the Assistant City Attorney for the City of Williamsburg. In 2007, Chris was employed by the City of Williamsburg as the Deputy City Attorney, and was appointed City Attorney in 2010. Chris is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Williamsburg Bar Association, the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia (LGA), and also serves on the conference committee and pro-bono committee for LGA. Chris lives with her husband and their dogs, and enjoys traveling and reading.

 

Laurie Blanton Coleman

Laurie has a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Troy State University and has worked in the Human Resources field for 25 years. Laurie is currently the Human Resources Manager for the County of York and have been in that position for 17 years. Prior to that Laurie worked in the private sector for Contel Telephone and Canon Virginia. Laurie has done volunteer work for the Literacy Council as well on the Board of United Way and in her spare time, Laurie enjoys motorcycle riding and sailing.

 

Pam Frazier

Pam Frazier is the Title I Parent Outreach Facilitator for WJCC Public Schools. Pam also founded and operates the Erase the Need Center which coordinates the Back Pack Program providing at-risk children with a back pack full of food to take home for the weekend.

 

Chaz McGuirk

Chaz McGuirk is the Operations Manager of Sam’s Import Logistics. Chaz served in the United States Army prior to joining Wal-Mart Logistics in 2006. He has volunteered with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and is currently volunteering for United Way including serving on the Board of Directors.

 

Robert Middaugh

James City County Administrator, Robert C. Middaugh, had been an Assistant City Manager for the City of Miami Beach, Florida since 2001 and he brings over 34 years of public service, local government leadership and fiscal management experience to James City County. He succeeds County Administrator Sandy Wanner who retired August 1, 2010.

 

Marc Duncan, Assistant Campaign Chair

Mark Duncan serves as the Director of Community, College and Government Relations for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Mark is a native and lifelong resident of the Virginia Peninsula. In addition to his United Way involvement, Mark’s volunteer work includes the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance, Lead Historic Triangle and the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg.

 

Genevieve S. Owens

Genevieve grew up in Lexington, Kentucky and received her B.A. in English from the University of Kentucky. After earning her M.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, she worked as an academic librarian in St. Louis, Missouri. Genevieve came to Williamsburg in 1996 when her husband Brent accepted a position in the Department of Geology at the College of William & Mary. Genevieve accepted a position at the Williamsburg Regional Library in October of that year and has been its Assistant Director since 2001. She and Brent love being parents to their fourteen-year-old daughter Joanne and seven-year-old hound Baxter.

 

Steve McCary

Steve McCary is the VP/Administrator of Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg. Steve has 25 years of experience in the healthcare management field in the Richmond, VA and Seattle, Washington areas.

Steve relocated to Williamsburg in 2010 to assist in the coordination and opening of Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg.

Steve and his wife, Julie, live in Williamsburg. Their three grown children visit often.

 

Andrew Roehrle

Andrew is married with three children who are very involved with swimming and school activities. He is a Certified Public Accountant and the Director of Finance of the Sentara Regional Medical Center. His interests include spending time with family and home improvement projects.

Mike Bruno

Mike Bruno is a retired Associate Professor and Dean of Instructional Services at Thomas Nelson Community College. Mike attended Miami University of Ohio and Ohio University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree and M.A. in English. He joined Thomas Nelson in the fall of 1972, and taught in the classroom for 25 years during which time he served twice as chair of the English department, was president of the Faculty Senate, and was a member of the Chancellor’s Faculty Advisory Committee. Mike was a founding member and also president of the Virginia Collegiate Honors Council.

 

Jim Archer, Treasurer

Jim is the Plant Controller at Ball Metal. He has been with Ball since 1999 and in this position in Williamsburg since 2007. Prior to Williamsburg, Jim was in Colorado. Jim was born and raised in Wyoming and received his bachelors of accounting from the University of Wyoming. Jim is an avid model railroad collector and is the track president for a local railroad club. Jim has been on the United Way board as the Treasurer for one year and on the finance committee for four years.

 

Kim Van Sickel, Marketing Chair

Kim serves on the Corporate Communications team at Sentara Healthcare where she is responsible for the development and execution of strategic communication plans; media relations; social media outreach and content development for the Sentara web site. A 12-year Sentara employee and Williamsburg area resident, Kim holds a BA from the University of Maryland in College Park and a MS in Healthcare Administration from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition to her current role as the Marketing Chair of the United Way of Greater Williamsburg, Kim has served as a Board member for the Leadership Historic Triangle program; Chair of the RFW Family YMCA in Williamsburg; and has membership in the Public Relations Society of America. Kim lives in Williamsburg with her husband and two daughters.

 

Doug Powell

Doug Powell is the Assistant County Administrator for James City County.

 

Leonard Sledge, 2012 Campaign Chair

Leonard Sledge serves as the Director of the Office of Economic Development for the College of William & Mary. A native of Hampton, Virginia, Leonard received undergraduate degrees from both Morehouse College and the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix. Leonard is married to his college sweetheart (Tiffanye), and they have three children (Amariah, Solomon, and Simeon). An ordained minister, Leonard and his family are members of Calvary Revival Church - Peninsula. Leonard is an avid Arizona Cardinals football fan, and he enjoys traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

 

Kathy Howell

Kathy Howell is president and creative director of Howell Creative Group, the marketing communications and advertising firm she founded in 1982. Kathy is a member of AIGA and the American Advertising Federation. As a nature lover and supporter of the environment, she has served on the board of the Williamsburg Land Conservancy and is presently a board of trustees member of the Virginia Living Museum. At Wellspring United Methodist Church, Kathy volunteers with Bible School and Outreach programs. In addition to the recognition Howell Creative Group has received over the years, the Cultural Alliance of Great Hampton Roads honored Kathy with an ALLI award in 2008. Recently, the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance selected her as the 2012 Small Business Person of the Year.

 

Kerry Mellette

Kerry is the part-time director of This Century Art Gallery and also provides consultation services to non-profits in the area of organizational set-up, strategic planning, meeting facilitation, board education, fund development, and grant making. Prior to her current position, she had a 25-year management career in non-profits.

Kerry holds a BS in Education from Syracuse University, and a Masters of Social Work from Catholic University.

Currently, Kerry is a member of the Board of the Williamsburg Landing retirement community, a volunteer with Faith in Action, and a member of the Rotary Club of Williamsburg. Previously, she held numerous community leadership positions including President of the Rotary Club of Williamsburg; Co-Chair of the Virginia Consortium for Health Philanthropy; Chair of Leadership Historic Triangle of the Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce, Trustee and Strategic Planning Chair of Hampton Roads Academy, and Trustee and Nominating Chair of the Williamsburg Community Foundation.

 

Scott Richardson, Strategic Planning Chair

In 2006, Scott Richardson joined Williamsburg Landing as director of wellness and fitness services. Scott oversee’s the Landing’s new 24,000- square-foot Health Club and Spa. He was previously the director of the Wellness Center at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg. He received his bachelor’s degree in sports business administration from Sir Sandford Fleming College, Peterborough, Ontario. He is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and is a member of the International Council on Active Aging.

 

Ross Richardson

Ross Richardson is Director of Communications & Special Projects for the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation. He has also held positions as Marketing Communications Director for Jamestown 2007 and Corporate Communications Director for Best Products Co., Inc. He holds a degree in journalism from James Madison University.

 

Bob Mandala, Governance Committee Chair

Bob Mandala and his wife, Linda, have been in Williamsburg for four years, living in Ford’s Colony. He originally hails from southern California, Orange County specifically, for those who know it. They had a short stay in Florida before moving to Virginia.

He worked for Bank of America for just under 40 years and retired two years ago. He worked in just about every major unit in the company including retail, corporate banking, marketing, and human resources (to name a few), and spent the last ten years in corporate philanthropy. Among his responsibilities were worldwide management of the company’s volunteer programs, diversity programs, employee recreation programs, Toastmaster speaking programs, and other employee oriented leadership activities.

As a result of being part of a major corporation, he had the opportunity to participate in many community activities and serve on several non-profit boards in various parts of the country, including United Way, Volunteer Centers, stay-in school mentoring programs, and local business networks. For the last two years, Bob and Linda have been serving on United Way’s Campaign Cabinet as the co-chairs for the Citizen’s Division (covering all personal donations for the greater Williamsburg area).

They have one daughter, Nicole, married and living in Boston where she went to school, and their empty-nester requisite puppy, a Maltese fireball named Daisy!
