Executive Director’s Updates

Spring 2015

Where did 2014 and the first quarter of 2015 go? So happy the spring weather has graced us and the green has returned.

Imagine a community that provides a safety net that not only catches people when they fall, but provides then with a pathway to success. We just completed our 2015 Community Investment ( granting) process and were able to provide funding for 28 programs serving our Greater Williamsburg area. Thank you to all the volunteers who participated in this process by reviewing proposals, meeting with agencies, and collaboratively making recommendations to the United Way board.

2014 was a productive year and successful year for United Way. We housed 26 families and 14 men through our housing programs; over 500 volunteers provided service through the Day of Caring; 30 low income households received furniture through our furniture program; the Community Resource Center provided financial assistance or referral services to nearly 4,000 residents; 16 residents received pro-bono legal services through a partnership with the Bar Association; and we served on average 120 households through a monthly food distribution.

Your generous support has made a significant impact in the lives of many of our residents. I am happy to be part of a community and organization that cares for all. Happy Spring and enjoy the weather.
