The United Way Community Resource Center (CRC) provides direct services and referrals to persons in need living in the Greater Williamsburg community.

Services and referrals include assistance for food, clothing, utilities, rent, housing, health, and various other needs. If you need help, please call the CRC.

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 8 am-5 pm; Wednesday 8:30 am-5 pm; Closed Daily 12-1 for staff & volunteer lunch.

 

Process

Community Resource Center Staff and Volunteers are here to help you. When you call the office at 757-229-2222 you will be greeted by a friendly volunteer or staff member who will assist you by setting up an appointment and getting your information for a Case Advocate so that we are able to provide you with the assistance you need. What you can expect -

  • A volunteer, staff member, or a faith partner will complete an intake form.
  • Clients sign a release of information form so information can be shared with provider partners.
  • A Case Advocate and/or a Community Resource Assistant meet with clients individually to go over assistance options.
  • Faith partners and providers may assist clients directly or through the CRC.
  • Client information is entered into a client database (HMIS).
  • Cash is never given directly to clients. Arrangements are made directly with providers for payments.

 

What to bring

  • Photo ID
  • Pay stub or other income verification (if possible)
  • List of current expenses

 

Services offered on-site

Representatives from the following agencies are regularly available on-site to assist clients -

  • Catholic Charities can assist with financial counseling and housing counseling
  • Colonial Community Corrections assists recently incarcerated individuals
  • Consumer Credit Counseling provides credit counseling, debt consolidation, and money management training
  • Lackey Free Clinic helps clients apply for health services
  • Mobile Food Pantry provides USDA and fresh produce on the third Thursday of every month. Participants must PRE-REGISTER with the Community Resource Center.
  • United Way Community Resource Center provides financial assistance for rent, utilities, medication, vocational, and other needs.
  • Wounded Warrior staffed by Americorp helps veterans navigate assistance resources

 

Referral services

A Case Advocate or Community Resource Assistant may refer you to off-site providers who can assist with -

  • Emergency shelter
  • Transitional housing
  • Social services
  • Food and clothing assistance
  • Area health services
