Day of Caring, Remembrance and Healing

September 11, 2002

Day of Caring 2002 will begin at 8am at the Colonial Williamsburg Bruton Heights Education Center. Volunteers will be given their projects for the day (some will have been started a few days before and some will continue for days after) and the volunteers will be given their 2002 Day of Caring T-Shirts.

We are dedicating this year's efforts to the memory of those who lost their lives in the 9-11 national tragedy last year. Our annual Day of Caring will be a a Day of Caring, Remembrance and Healing.  The local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans has organzied a special Military, Police and Fire Department Honor Guard to begin the ceremony.  We anticipate a work force of approximately 1,000 volunteers to assemble at 8a.m. and after a brief pep rally, the volunteers will then disperse to work in teams on community-wide projects for the day.

At the end of the day, all volunteers will gather to share their day's experiences and enjoy a dinner provided in-kind by Outback Steak House and Ben& Jerry's. There will be a program to close the day's activities with special recognitions and a time for remembrance.

Sign up today to volunteer for a day of caring project at one of our agencies or out in the community!  Call Kathleen Boyer, our Volunteer Center Director at 253-2264 for more information or you can email Kathleen at volunteer@uwgw.org.
