Offers: Colonial Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a volunteer-based organization which provides trained community volunteers who are appointed by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Judge to advocate for abused & neglected children. CASA volunteers are responsible for conducting a case investigation by reviewing records & meeting with individuals who have relevant information concerning the child’s circumstances. They are required to prepare a written report for each court hearing that gives the basic descriptive information, states the factual findings, & addresses the temporary or permanent placement of the child. CASA volunteers appear in court for all hearings & testify, as necessary. Volunteers monitor the implementation of the court orders to bring any significant information or problems regarding the child’s situation to the attention of the court. All volunteers must be 21 years of age & are required to submit to both criminal history & Child Protective Services background checks. All CASA volunteers must complete a 36 hour training program & 6 hours of court observation prior to being inducted by the Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court Judge. All volunteers must commit to one year of service.
