They appointed representatives from peninsula localities to a workgroup, the Mayors & Chairs Commission on Homelessness, which was tasked to research homelessness and prepare a report with recommendations for addressing homelessness using a regional approach. The Commission has been meeting monthly since January 2005. They have identified 5 components for use as a framework for developing a regional plan to address homelessness on the peninsula: prevention, permanent housing, coordinated and personalized services, education and public awareness and systems improvements. Beginning in January 2007, focus groups in each of the 5 components will meet to recommend action items to the Mayors & Chairs.
