During the United Way of Greater Williamsburg's Annual Meeting on March 22nd, 2007, Dean Sculthorpe announced all the Cruikshank Award Nominee's who were all presented with a framed certificate. Again this year the committee had a tie for the winner of the award. Both agencies received a plaque.

Gert Berthiume and Dot Bickmore of the Sentar Williamsburg Regional Medical Center Auxiliary - a volunteer organization of community members who provide funding and physical assistance to the hospital and its patients. The Auxiliary’s Free Mammography Program was designed and implemented in 1998 by two self-motivated Auxilians, Gert Berthiaume and Dot Bickmore, to offer free mammograms to women in the community between the ages of 40 and 65 who have no health insurance. In 2000 the program was expanded to provide Free Bone Density screenings for community members at risk for osteoporosis.

Volunteers of the Williamsburg Area Faith in Action - Since its inception in 2002, these volunteers have done a phenomenal job. WFIA volunteers have provided non-medical services to 573 care receivers; 300 WFIA volunteers have completed training and 75% are still active volunteers; 17,916 volunteer hours have been contributed to improving the quality of life for the elderly, chronically ill and disabled in the greater Williamsburg area; WFIA volunteers have made contact 10,319 times with care receivers averaging 1.7 hours per contact; 96,188 miles have been driven by WFIA volunteers; 34 faith-based organizations are represented by WFIA volunteers, care receivers, or financial support; volunteers are recruited and trained to meet the needs of the care receivers and assist with household chores and yard work, meal preparation, companionship visiting, letter writing, providing respite and in-home visits, making reassurance telephone calls, shopping and providing transportation to a variety of destinations. |
