AN ACHIEVABLE DREAM

Volunteers needed for the 2012 Run for the Dream Half Marathon, to be held in Williamsburg, along with an 8k and Fun Run, Saturday & Sunday, May 19-20. More than 6,000 participants will venture to the Colonial Capital to take part in this majro annual event to benefit Armed Forces Wounded Warrior Programs and An Achievable Academies. Positions needed include: Course Marshals, Water Stations, Registration & Expo, Post-Race Bash, Concierge, Medical, Parking & Transportation. AUXILIARY PINEAPPLE GIFT SHOP

Sentara-Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, 100 Sentara Circle (Lobby), Williamsburg, VA.
A gift shop with all net proceeds benefiting the Sentara-Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. Hours of operation are Mon-Fri from 9am-5pm (occasional weekends 1pm to 4pm). Volunteer opportunities for adults. All volunteers must complete an application, go through interview process, and attend orientation. Retail experience is a plus! EASTERN STATE HOSPITAL

Seeking mature adults for several placements at the Hospital including volunteers to be “guardians” to patients who are unable to make decisions for his/her care. This job does not require more than 12 hours (12 hours min. per year - more than that is up to you). You must get to know the patient, attend his/her Treatment Team meetings, makes decisions for the patient (with the assistance of a social worker) and sign paperwork. The process for being approved through the State Attorney General’s office takes about one year.

DREAM CATCHERS THERAPEUTIC RIDING CENTER

Volunteers 14 years and older are needed to help keep the riding center operating. They provide valuable assistance by helping with safety, horse handling, barn maintenance, and working with riders.

UNITED WAY OF GREATER WILLIAMSBURG - Community Resource Center

United Way Community Resource Center has volunteer positions open for Community Resource Assistants (CRA) and Receptionists. The CRA’s job would be to assist clients in developing self-sufficiency by assessing needs and referring to wraparound community services. Skills needed would included basic computer literacy, good communication and interviewing skills, previous professional experience in counseling, social work or a related filed and excellent record keeping skills. Training is required and various training classes are available. The receptionist positions are to serve as the receptionist for the Community Resource Center which includes answering the telephone and transferring calls appropriately. Would also greet clients coming into the center office and assist with general community resource information and general office maintenance. Skills needed include basic computer literacy, customer service and experience in the basics of office management. UNITED WAY OF GREATER WILLIAMSBURG

United Way of Greater Williamsburg has opportunities to serve on working committees. If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity where you get to network with other professionals, use your professional experiences and skills, and serve the community. Examples of committees you could serve on include the Marketing Committee which is responsible for all aspects of marketing for UWGW. They meet every other month and work on advertising, speaking engagements, collateral materials, and other marketing and communications tasks. This is a great group of people who are looking for others with talents to join them. The Community Investment Committee meets from January through late March and review grant proposals from community organizations who are asking for UWGW support. Committee members review proposals, conduct site visits, hear presentations and make recommendations on grants for the year. This is a great way to learn about your community! VIRGINIA LIVING MUSEUM

The museum has a variety of year-round opportunities for adults and teens to be interpreters in the museum building and on the outdoor boardwalk. Teens, ages 15 and up, are particularly needed during the summer as interpreters in the museum and on the trail. Youth, ages 11 to 14, can participate in the Family Volunteer Program. Particularly seeking those interested in the natural and space sciences. Adult volunteers also work behind-the-scenes in animal care and horticulture.
